B.F. Meek & Son’s Fishing Reel Screwdriver/Oiler

At just 3.25″ long, when closed, this B.F. Meek & Son’s tool is quite dainty. The case is stamped “Pat. Pending, B.F. Meek & Sons, Louisville, KY, Fishing Reels” in four lines. Constructed of brass and steel this is a quality implement built with precision and to last. Meek’s “Pocket Combination Screw Driver And Oiler” is reversible and fits into the outer brass sleeve both forward for use and backward for storage.  The blade is easily replaced …well, at least physically its easy …good luck finding one !

There simply is no substitute for the proper tool and the head of the Meek screwdriver, combined with the torque gained by the fat handle, easily loosens the most stubborn screws without damaging the slot.  The hollow handle contains the oil reservoir and the application paddle.

While the Meek screwdriver/oiler is not a marvel of design wizardry, there are several factors that contribute to its appeal. First and foremost is its lineage. It is, as far as I know, the only such gadget produced by Meek, one of this country’s most revered reel-makers. Second is its importance to the owner of a finely crafted reel as it aids in safe dis-assembly.  Naturally, its extreme level of quality and its high degree of rarity greatly add to its desirability.
