Hardy Brothers “Zephyr”
The Hardy “Zephyr” pocket bottle is simply ingenious …or, perhaps I should say ingeniously simple. Whichever the case, it has long been one of my absolute favorite items. The “Zephyr” is a fly oil bottle which is incredibly easy to use. The 1924 Hardy catalog states that the “…stopper is detached by gripping the reservoir at the shoulder with the first and second fingers (one on each side) and pressing the bottom upwards with the thumb.” So, the “Zephyr” can be opened, used and shut with one hand …as opposed to a bottle with a screw-cap, which is a two-handed affair.

- Hardy “Zephyr” Pocket Bottles in Brass And Alloy
The 1924 catalog pictures the aforementioned “reservoir” as a glass bottle. However, having seen about a half dozen “Zephyr” pocket bottles over the years, I am yet to encounter one with a glass reservoir (inner bottle) …although, I very much look forward to finding one.

- The Spring Keeps The Bottle (Reservoir) Tightly Sealed
As with all Hardy gadgets, the fit and finish of these little jewels is impeccable. Although the brass bottle came first, the alloy version is far more rare. Early Hardy catalogs mention that the Zephyr was also available in nickel-silver, although I am yet to see one.
