Knives
There is a lot of variety in fishing related knives. My favorites are fly fishing knives, which typically contain a main blade, scissor, file, disgorger and a pick. But, there are variations on this theme.

The Main Blade On This Knife Is Marked “C. Farlow & Co, 191 Strand”, Which Dates It No Later Than 1894

Like The Hardy #1 Anglers Knife, The Farlow Is Very Petite At Just 3.5″ Long. The Logo Is Etched Into The Bone Handle

As Shown In The 1885 Edition Of Badminton Library’s “Fishing Salmon And Trout”. This Is The Earliest Reference To A “Fly Fishing” Knife I Have Found.

A Limited Number Of PUMA Model 854 Fly Fishing Knives Were Made For Abercrombie & Fitch. A Scant 3.25″ In Length, Tools Include A Main Blade, Screwdriver, File, Pick, Scissors And A Multipurpose Lip On The End Opposite The Nickel Silver Shackle. According To Ken Tarpey (The Puma Knife Man) The Model 854 Is Arguably As Rare As The PUMA “Goldfish”, Model 929.

This Butler (Of Sheffield) Fly Fishing Knife is 3.5″ Long. Butler Was One Of The Makers Of Hardy Knives.

This Knife Has A Cocoa Handle And Is Pictured In the 1890 “Wilkinson Co.” Catalog. Wilkinson Was Located In Chicago.

The Implements In Hardy’s “Pocket Tool Outfit” Include (From Left To Right) A Knife Blade, Screwdriver, Half-Round File, Awl, Chisel & Saw. The Tools All Neatly Store Inside The Handle And Are Inserted Into The Screw-Down Collar For Use. The Handle Is Aluminum, The Collar Is Nickle Silver And The Tools Are Of Sheffield Steel, By Butler. Butler Also Made Some Of Hardy’s Fly Fishing Knives.

The “Pocket Tool Outfit” Was Available For Quite A Long Time: Late 1920s To The Early 1960s. Having Had Such A Long Run, One Is Left To Wonder Why They Are So Rarely Seen. This Side Is Marked “Made By Hardy Bros. Ltd, Alnwick, England”

The Elusive Hardy’s #1 Size Anglers Knife Is The Smallest Of Hardy’s Anglers Knives And This One Is Signed “Eye Witness, Sheffield”

Most Fly Fishing Knives Are 4+” In Length …While This Example by Venture Of Sheffield, England, Measures Only 3″. Note The Unusual Hook Removal Tool.

The Puma “Anglers” Knife Is Smaller (4″) Than The Verison With The Scale, Has Wood Rather Than Medal Sides And Does Not Include The Scale. These Were Made Exclusively For Abercrombie & Fitch.

This Beautiful Puma “Angler Messer” Knife Has A Main Blade, Scissors, Screwdriver, Disgorger And A Bait Needle.

More Of A Tool Than A Knife, The “Goldfish” Is PUMA’s Model 929 And In My Experience Shows Up Less Often Than The Hardy #1 Anglers Knife

Like The A&F “Trout Tool” (Also By PUMA), The Implements Of The “Goldfish” Include A Disgorger, File, Scraper, Stiletto, Tweezers, Scissors And A Screwdriver. The File Is On The Back Of The Disgorger And The Tiny Screwdriver Is On The Foot Of The Scissor

A Beautiful And Tiny (2-7/8″ Long) Knife With Mother Of Pearl Handles, Sold By Abercrombie & Fitch And Made By E. Bruckmann Of Germany, Circa 1930
