- A Buddy Of Mine Bought An Absolutely Spectacular Reel …A Marbleized Philbrook & Paine Salmon Reel. But, As You Can See, It Sorely Needed A Bath. The Reel Was In Excellent Condition, But Was Positively Filthy. So, He Sent It To Me And I Spent A Few Hours Giving It The Tackle Treasures Spa Treatment …Being Very Careful To Retain Its “Old” Look By Doing All Of The Work By Hand And Only Cleaning The Reel, Not Polishing It, As Requested.

This Magnificient Salmon Reel Is Solid German Silver Under All That Tarnish, Weighs 1.5 Pounds (!!) And Has Dual Rolling Pillars. I Couldn’t Wait To Clean It Up.
Reel Completely Disassembled, Every Part Cleaned By Hand, Bend In Foot Straightened, Screw-heads Dressed, Bearings And Click Lubed. Sweet.

Yikes. What A Mess. Heavily Corroded With Lots Of Pitting.
Some Of The Pitting On The Rear Was Too Deep To Remove. The Most Important Part Of Reel Cleaning Is Knowing When To Stop.
